We met at the Old Capitol, once the Capitol of the State of Iowa and now a perfectly preserved museum. It's actually small as far as old government buildings or courthouses go, but absolutely beautiful architecture and design regardless. It was my first time shooting there and I loved it. We are only allowed 15 minutes, so we zipped around to all the spots I had previously picked out as quickly as possible.
After that, we took some photos on the grounds of the University of Iowa at the Pentacrest. We finished at Calvin Hall, a red brick building that always catches my eye. Little fun fact for you: this building was in an episode of Friends as a flashback to Ross & Chandler's college days (guess they were University of Iowa alumni!). It's season 10, episode 11 and
you can read more about it here.
Honestly the entire University of Iowa grounds are gorgeous and I feel so lucky I live near them and get to use them for my work. The city takes wonderful care of itself and the University buildings do as well. I love exploring these buildings, seeing the old photos in the museums and feeling the rich history.
Hopefully you love these photos as much as I do and feel inspired to check out the offerings available in downtown Iowa City. This museum, the Natural History museum next door, and the Stanley Art Museum walking distance from them are all worth a day trip. Stop at DeLuxe Bakery while you're at it. ;)
