Small Grand Things is a hidden gem in the rural Iowa landscape. I had never been to this venue before, and hadn't had an engagement session with Mallorie & Luke before the wedding day, so I was truly going in with zero expectations, and boy did this day deliver. Seriously, how gorgeous is this couple, her dress, the way they look at each other, and this landscape?!
Being able to show up on such a momentous day in someone's life, having never met in person, at a location I'd never shot at before, and it flowing so beautifully is one of those things that make weddings incredibly magical to me.
Gorgeous woodland farm wedding in West Point, Iowa
It was perfectly cloudy all day long. I think there's something special about shooting in every kind of light, even harsh light, but a cloudy wedding day just allows us wedding photographers to relax a little bit. Bonus points if the sun peeks out at golden hour.
Mallorie shared beautiful first looks with her dad and brother before the ceremony. She & Luke saw each other for the first time on their wedding day at the altar. It was so beautiful watching them together during their ceremony, taking the time to write a note and snap a polaroid of themselves with all in attendance in the background.
The venue isn't visible from the road and has a long rural driveway like so many farms in the countryside do. A little pond greets you at the entrance with happy twinkle lights strung along the path.
We weren't sure if we were going to go out for sunset photos with it threatening to rain, but we ended up going for it! The venue owner herself drove us through the backwoods on a wild ride for some pretty amazing sunset photos that were definitely worth it.
The best part of this day was that these two got married. It was really easy to see their genuine love show up throughout the day, and that just makes my work so fulfilling.
